According to Brigid Schulte, author of the book Overwhelmed: Work, Love and Play When No One Has the Time, our capability to focus over a time lasts for only 90 minutes.

Therewith it follows that you should work on something in 30-, 45- and 90-minute rhythms — and then take a break. Don’t think that taking a break will be a waste of time. Taking breaks can be beneficial. If you spend some break-time exercising, you will sleep better at night and have longer-lasting energy. It all adds up to attaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

If you are too busy to take “real” breaks, then take “fake” breaks. Fake breaks include checking your phone messages, social media messages and emails. Apply the 6, 12 and 6 rule: check for 20 minutes at 6 am, 12 pm and again at 6 pm.
