2) Total Cost of Your Child’s Education Plan in Singapore (2/2)

Let’s face it, having children in Singapore is a costly decision from education, hygiene, clothing and the miscellaneous things, each child could easily amount to maybe a quarter of a million dollars until they start working.

This doesn’t mean that it isn’t all worth it though.

Here’s a list that will help put you into perspective the potential costs of raising your children in Singapore.

  1. Pocket Money

Your child’s allowance may start from mere dollars, and go upwards of $500 as they get older and have more expenses and entertainment that they’d want to indulge in. Instil the habit of saving money in your children from young, so they can develop their own savings account, which would benefit them in the future.

  1. Enrichment classes – non-academic

These classes would normally mean out of school activities such as piano or violin lessons, as well as perhaps soccer or swimming lessons. The cost of these activities usually varies quite a bit, but expect around $500-$1000 per month per child, assuming 3 times a week lesson.

While not necessary for all children, some do display a certain aptitude for music or sports, and it would be such a waste not to groom such a talent.

Extras Costs To Consider When Calculating Education Fees in Singapore

  1. Tuition fees

Tuition fees are perhaps the biggest financial drain for most parents. With some places charging as high as $100/hour, multiplied by the large number of subjects your children has to take, the fees for tuition can burn quite the whole in your pocket. A conservative estimate would place costs around $500-$1000 a month for primary and secondary school students and $1000-$2000 for JC level students.

We’ve included the top 3 tuition centres in Singapore for your consideration based on results balanced out with the costs.

Mavis Tutorial Centre has been providing tuition services to students who range from primary school level all the way to JC level since 1986.

The students in Mavis Tutorial Centre benefit from the relatively more unorthodox methods of studying, which helps improve their memories and mental flexibility, leading to better results.

At only $20/hr for primary school level, it is perhaps one of the more affordable tuition centres around Singapore, so do check it out if you’re looking for a cost effective tuition centre at affordable rates!

Just Education Singapore was established in 1999 and has consistently produced students who have excelled in their academic pursuits.

Interestingly, Just Education Singapore utilises a significant amount of digital content, in conjunction with the tech-savvy younger generation to further improve student’s learning as well as adapting to the global situations. Also, thanks to this unique enrichment process, their programmes are also organised to help students explore life skills, memory skills as well as develop their creativity. This makes the students’ learning a holistic one, allowing them to develop into adults who are well equipped for the working world.

Unfortunately, their fees are a little higher thanks to their more comprehensive packages, at $40-50/hr for primary school level, $60/hr for Secondary school and $75/hr for JC level students.

I would think that the Adam Khoo brand is perhaps one of Singapore’s most well-known educational brands in Singapore – conducting a large number of workshops all across the various schools in Singapore; the Adam Khoo brand has spread its name far and wide across Singapore. As such, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they also have tuition centres.

Utilising mainly the power of belief and NLP learning technologies to motivate students, the programmes and classes are specifically designed to help students hit their peak potential by changing their mind-set towards studying and education in general. The classes also teach important life skills such as having confidence in presenting their answers as well as developing their logic and thought processes for optimal learning.

Thankfully, the fees are not too expensive; they are somewhere in the midrange, at $25/hr for primary school level, $30/hr for Secondary and $40/hr for JC per subject. The best part is that there is a 10% discount if you get 2 or more subjects, so it is quite a worthwhile deal.

5 Industries Meant to Weather a Market Correction

  1. Travelling costs

Travelling costs for students is generally a lot cheaper than the adult fare thankfully. If you were to top up their travel cards with $100, it could last perhaps 1.5 to 2 months for normal school travel, or perhaps 1 month if they travel out around Singapore extensively, taxi fares notwithstanding.

So if you were to include all the factors together, expect around $1000-$3500 per child if they are at the JC level.

Thankfully, for Singapore students, the cost of education is pretty low (Primary, Secondary and JC of the neighbourhood category, not the elite category), university and polytechnic fees notwithstanding as well.
