Even though we do not typically experience winter in Asia during December, Christmas is all about giving thanks and spending time with your loved ones. In this festive occasion, treat your partner and yourself to a day of renewing your joyous relationship. Take a look at these date night ideas that will make all the stars in the sky seem like mistletoes!

1. Christmas Wonderland at Gardens By The Bay

Admission starts from $6/pax

What better way to get into the Christmas Spirit other than being surrounded by millions of festive lights and listening to joyous Christmas Carole?

Every year, locals and tourists alike tour around Gardens by the Bay enjoying the little piece of Eden amid the towering skyscrapers and bustling city life. However, come December, Gardens by the Bay is transformed into a Yuletide paradise that offers not only breathtaking views but also an array of food stalls that offer savoury and sweet confections.

Although Christmas is traditionally celebrated by Christians, every individual can enjoy this very merry season. Therefore, be prepared for a swarm of people, old and young alike. You can also just enjoy a breeze stroll, stopping only at the decorations that make you feel all giddy inside!

2. Christmas shopping @ Orchard Road

Christmas shopping may seem like a chore but when done with a loved one, it will turn an errand into a date night! When Christmas is around the corner, most Singaporeans turn to the muster of shopping malls that line Orchard Road.

Sales, promotions and discounts are catalogued in front of every store. Therefore, if you want to have more selections of gifts to choose from, best do your Christmas shopping earlier.

With your partner, you can brave the hassle and bustle of the Christmas rush in town and pick out the perfect gifts for your loved ones.

In addition to shopping, according to an article by Channel News Asia, this year, Orchard Road’s Christmas light up will “feature Disney and Pixar characters such as Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, Elsa and Woody”. It is quite the spectacle for both the young and young-at-heart.

3. Volunteer

Most of us are fortunate enough to be celebrating this jolly season with an abundance of food and merry, surrounded by our loving family and friends.

Although volunteering might not be how you want to spend Christmas. ‘Tis the season to be grateful for what we have and also to give back to others. Spread the Christmas spirit by spending an afternoon with SPCA or even volunteer at an all-girls’ home.

It will not only make you appreciate what you have but also make those who less-fortunate not feel like they are missing out on this jolly season. Volunteering does not require any money or gifts to spare, your time will be enough.

4. Holiday Baking

Another fun way to celebrate this season is by testing out your Masterchef skills! Whether you would want to do it together, snuggled up in your matching Christmas sweaters, or even making it a competition on who makes the better gingerbread man, test your baking skills the fun way!

From getting the ingredients at the grocery store to finalising your masterpiece with the icing topping – it is a sure way to see a different side of your partner.

If your recipe turns out great, you may even use it as a party favour or just give it out to your closest family and friends. If your attempt turns out inedible, then you have got yourself a Christmas story to share in all the parties and reunions. It’s a win-win!

5. Decorating the tree

If you and your partner are living together, or are comfortable in each other’s respective houses, decorating a Christmas tree is always a sure way to get you into the Christmas Spirit.

Unlike in most Western movies, getting a Christmas tree is not as hard as finding the freshest pine tree around the block. Most trees in Singapore are artificial and can be bought in the neighbourhood shopping mall for as low as $2 from Daiso! Albeit it is tinier than usual, the size need not matter but the effort put in decorating it!

So put on your favourite Christmas music and start hanging ornaments! Better yet, DIY your own ornaments that share milestones of your relationship and make it the best Christmas tree ever!

7. Christmas Party

Whether you and your partner are thinking of throwing one or just crashing one. This is always a great holiday date idea.

It does not just give you the opportunity to interact with your friends but see if your partner gets along with them as well. With the holiday season enabling young adults to have 3-4 days off of work. Make the most out of it! After spending three or four consecutive days with their families, your friends and your date will probably be thankful for a night away from home.

8. Christmas Movie Night Marathon

A personal favourite of mine. The only thing it requires is a good internet connection and a cosy blanket.

With online streaming websites such as Netflix, you do not have to stand up to change the DVD or have troubles choosing which movie to watch. From classics such as Home Alone and Miracle on 34th Street to modern favourites such as Elf and Arthur Christmas, there are countless movies to choose from!

9. Visit Universal Studios

Last year, Universal Studios Singapore (USS) hosted “A Universal Christmas” that featured Santa’s workshop and other holiday attractions.

Although they have not confirmed this year’s theme, be sure to keep a look out on when the ticket sales come out. Going to a theme park is always a good date idea. Going to a theme park with a holiday theme? Even better!

10. New Year’s Eve Date

Be it with family, friends or even strangers, everyone wants to celebrate New Year’s. In Singapore, there are many New Year Parties that you can attend. Even staying in the comforts of your own home, you can watch the display of fireworks because Singapore is that small!

Counting down the last few seconds of 2018, and welcoming 2019 with your loved one is, and always will be, a perfect date.

So what are you waiting for? Go ask a guy or girl out and celebrate this holiday season in complete ecstasy!
