With an engineering degree, Swati has worked with some of the largest global corporations which took her to work in places like the USA, Europe, and Asia. She has further complimented her technical and business background with digital marketing skills from Stanford University.

Additionally, she has gained inter-disciplinary skills from prestigious institutions like IDEO, Google, and General Assembly.

Swati also manages to blog regularly and contributes to publications like The Huffington Post, Executive Lifestyle, and others.

As a mother and a woman entrepreneur, Swati works with and helps other dynamic women to succeed. She also supports charitable causes like children’s education and digital empowerment.

Swati: I am a person who believes in constantly evolving and learning. I am an engineer by background and had a globe-trotting career in the corporate sector, which gave me plenty of exposure and life lessons.

I started Influenshine with the belief that I had much more to give to the world of business, and it would all start with me taking control of my work and life.

The New Savvy: How is your business different and what are its Unique Selling Points?

Swati: There is a strong emphasis on storytelling and user-experience, and we are helping companies realize the true potential of their business by leveraging the power of the internet. I am passionate about good content and find it immensely satisfying helping brands establish their thought-leadership through good content.

The New Savvy: What do you love about your job?

Swati: I love the fact that my work has so much impact on the success of my clients. As someone said, businesses have only two functions – innovation and marketing. It combines elements of design, analytics, technology, storytelling, and user-experience, which makes it challenging and complex, but also ultimately very rewarding.

The New Savvy: What parts of your job do you find most challenging?

Swati: The constantly evolving landscape of digital marketing means that people in this sector have to keep abreast of the latest news and trends, or else they will become obsolete. I thrive in this environment because I am and will always remain a student at heart.

The New Savvy: What is Your Ambition?

Swati: I hope to provide the best-in-class digital marketing to Asian focused businesses, right in Asia. This being a new area, things keep evolving, which has given rise to a gap in these specialized skills. I hope to be able to bridge this gap.

The New Savvy: Share two advice for female entrepreneurs wanting to start out on their own.

Swati: One, do your homework. Knowing your own market, who your target customers are, how you will reach them are as important as your actual product or service.

Two, get started. Don’t wait too long for circumstances to be perfect to start something new.

The New Savvy: What is the one advice that has impacted you the most?

Swati: The best advice I’ve received so far: Do not try to do everything by yourself. As self-starters, we all have that tendency. I feel it’s one of the habits that hold us back.

Delegating and outsourcing wherever possible is the secret to growth. Not only will you get time to focus on things that matter to you, but you may also end up with the better outcome since the outsourced work was done by experts.

The New Savvy: What’s your biggest regret?

Swati: I wish I had started my business sooner! It is immensely satisfying and fulfilling. It has also given me the opportunity to network with some amazing people who are very progressive in their thinking and have inspirational personalities.

Swati: Creative. Hard-working. Tenacious.

The New Savvy: What are your financial habits?

Swati: I am a saver. I believe in spending less than you earn! Which also means that I am not much of risk taker when it comes to personal finance.

The New Savvy: How do you improve your financial knowledge?

Swati: I read about it. Newspapers mostly. Though I have to admit I am not doing much of it lately!

The New Savvy: What are the biggest obstacles to planning your portfolio?

Swati: I guess it is a lack of information.

Swati: Being able to know more about investment options to take the right decisions. Don’t we all wish we knew how to do it!

The New Savvy: How do you think modern women can be more fulfilled in their lives?

Swati: Modern women want it all – families, career, travel, friends. It’s not impossible, but if you learn to let go of the instinct to control everything in your life, that will lead to more freedom and fulfilment.

The New Savvy: Do you believe in the traditional roles of men and women?

Swati: For me, the bigger issue is that of respecting each other. Traditional roles of men and women are a problem only if you think one role is better or more important than the other.

Traditionally, a woman stays at home and takes care of the kids – what’s wrong with that if the woman chooses that role for herself?

The New Savvy: What is a skill you think all women should learn and why?

Swati: In the modern world, every woman should learn how to navigate the web and social media efficiently and responsibly. Once they know that, it opens up a plethora of opportunities to learn and grow in whatever area they may be interested in, and whatever life stage they may be in.

The New Savvy: How can we improve women’s relationship with money?

Swati: Understanding something improves your relationship with them. Educate yourself about money to be more comfortable with it.

Swati: Barack Obama, Elon Musk, and Justin Trudeau.

Swati: There can’t be just five! I love all my possessions!

Swati: You can often find me near Robertson Quay, dining out or having a drink.
